A complex mystery with multiple characters and many plot lines, “The Color of Evil” is the story of a small town In Iowa, Cedar Falls, adjacent to Waterloo. An eight-year-old boy, Tad, has precognitive dream visions and sees auras. The clown chosen to perform at his eighth birthday party, “Pogo,” carries the worst aura of all, a gray-green ugly shroud that even at his young age Tad understands signifies serious trouble. After the party Tad begins to repetitively dream of the clown’s marauding, and before long, his visions are proved to be true.

But Pogo is not the only psychopath in this town; one is disguised as a “fifth-year-senior,” so called because he couldn’t graduate on time. With poor impulse control, this young man, Jeremy, sets up a situation in which he kills one and abducts another. Pogo escapes, and a new reign of terror commences. Meantime, Tad’s somewhat skewed best friend Stevie, persistently molested by the school principal, disappears.
