A complex storyline which kept my emotions in a happy turmoil (happy because I was so engrossed I couldn’t step aside), “Thought I Knew You” is not just the story of a marriage, it is also the narration of an incredibly complicated mystery. I wager no reader will figure the denouement out ahead of time; certainly this reviewer didn’t, yet the unfolding of the secrets works perfectly logically in line with all that has happened prior to the revelation. Many of the characters: Claire, Drew, Claire’s daughters Hannah and Leah, and Sarah (Sarah and Drew are Claire’s nearly life-long friends) undergo complex character evolution and maturation. Ms. Moretti is an incredibly deft and gifted storyteller with a wide imagination, and an ability to draw out her characters, both adult and child, in a way that is realistic, inspiring of empathy, and yet individual to each character. I highly recommend the very special novel “Thought I Knew You” by Kate Moretti.
