Review: BROKEN PROMISE by Linwood Barclay
Author Linwood Barclay never disappoints; his newest, BROKEN PROMISE, is the first in a trilogy set in the sad little town of Promise Falls, in upstate New York. On the surface, Promise Falls is just one of the multitude of sad American small cities, economically unfit, gasping out its last viable breaths. That's only the surface: underneath is ugly crime; a psychopathic former mayor intent on reacquring his death grip on the city, and eventually, on the state; mental disorders; gambling addictions; sociopathic murderers. Yet more will be revealed in the next book, I'm sure. BROKEN PROMISE is riveting. I read it in a day, unwilling to stop.
